Just in case your memory’s a little hazy, I’ve revisited Jacobs’ most unforgettable moments—sartorial and otherwise—from his time at Louis Vuitton…
Fall 1998 marked Marc Jacobs’ first collection for Louis Vuitton. Held in a silent salon in Paris, the show was clean and minimal.
Marc Jacobs tapped Stephen Sprouse as Louis Vuitton’s first guest artist. The collaboration resulted in the house’s iconic neon graffitied monogram bags, which debuted for Spring 2001.
Takashi Murakami became the second Vuitton guest artist in 2002. A parade of models in candy-colored satin frocks carried the collaborative bags down the house’s Spring 2003 runway.
Lily Cole opened Marc Jacobs’ tartan- and fur-filled Fall 2004 Vuitton show. She was just 16 at the time.
When Spring 2005 rolled around, Jacobs enlisted Christina Ricci—then the face of the brand—to open Vuitton’s circus-inspired show.
Jacobs kicked off the shopping-tote-as-handbag trend with his sweet-meets-Victorian Spring 2007 offering.
Supermodels including Stephanie Seymour (left), Eva Herzigova, Natalia Vodianova, and Angela Lindvall opened Vuitton’s Spring 2008 show dressed up like characters from Richard Prince’s Nurse Paintings. The artist collaborated with Jacobs on Vuitton’s bags that season.
Jacobs carried a SpongeBob Square Pants bag down his Spring 2008 runway. The accessory was Jacobs’ response to criticisms he had received earlier that season for his eponymous range, the palette of which was inspired by the cartoon.
Madonna donned a look from Jacobs’ Fall 2009 collection for Vuitton—taffeta rabbit ears and all—to the 2009 Met Gala.
Models wore supersized Afro wigs down the runway at Vuitton’s youthful Spring 2010 show.
Marc Jacobs celebrated the feminine form with his Fall 2010 collection, and enlisted bombshells like Lara Stone, Bar Refaeli, and Elle Macpherson to model his décolleté-baring wares.
Kate Moss walked out smoking—literally—during Jacobs’ fetish-themed Fall 2011 show.
More demure this time, Moss closed Jacobs’ enchanting Spring 2012 show, which was set against a massive white carousel.
A nod to the house’s history, a giant locomotive served as the backdrop for Vuitton’s Fall 2012 show.
In 2012, Jacobs unveiled a Vuitton collaboration with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. The team-up resulted in a polka-dotted handbag and ready-to-wear collection, as well as elaborate store installations.
Daniel Buren created the mesmerizing escalator set for Vuitton’s Spring 2013 checkerboard collection.
Kate Moss slithered out in a veritable negligee to close Vuitton’s Fall 2013 catwalk.
Marc Jacobs took a bow after the Fall 2013 Vuitton show in his now-signature pj’s.
