Steve Harvey Mistakes Miss Colombia as the Winner

LAS VEGAS – Miss Philippines contestant, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was crowned Miss Universe 2015, but not before a controversial crowning. American comedian and television personality Steve Harvey, who hosted the end of Sunday’s Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, mistakenly announced Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, as Miss Universe 2015 in front of thousands of spectators and millions of viewers of the competition’s live telecast.

It was a dramatic end to the coveted competition, with Miss Colombia being de-crowned as Harvery returned to announce: “Okay folks, I have to apologise. The first runner-up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines!” He quickly followed on by saying, “Listen folks, let me just take control of this. This is exactly what’s on the card. I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake. It was on the card. Horrible mistake. It is my mistake.“

Elegantly dressed Pia appeared shocked as former Miss Universe Colombia removed the crown from Miss Colombia and presented it to Miss Philippines instead.

Miss Philippines final words? “To be Miss Universe would be both an honour and a responsibility. I will use my voice to influence the youth and I would raise awareness to certain causes. I want to show the world, the universe rather, that I am confidentally beautiful with a heart.”

Harvey sensed the storm at hand and immediately tweeted (and deleted) an “emphatic” apology: “I am so regretful.”
