To celebrate the opening of Fendi’s new flagship store, the Roman fashion giant asked 10 famous London women, including model Cara Delevingne, actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Naomi Harris, artist Tracey Emin, Jerry Hall and her daughter Georgia May Jagger, architect Zara Hadid and singer Adele to personalise one of the brand’s most iconic pieces, the Peekaboo handbag (the Peekaboo was first created for the SS09 collection).
The bags are almost like tangible representations of each woman’s personality. There is Platrow’s icy white perfection in crocodile, Delevingne playful “superwoman” inspired bag with a flaming “S” down the center, and Jagger’s canvas bag covered in translucent sequins. But it’s Adele who came up with the most original take on the Peekaboo aspect of the bag. Her pink and red shaded bag, with its sides festooned with colorful beading opens to reveal a pair of impressive long patent leather eyelashes. When her bag is left open the dipping front side of the bag acts as a “chin” that, along with those hidden eyelashes and the interior zipper pocket “teeth”, gives the handbag a female face. The singer’s bag is hands down the most inventive one of the bunch.
The online auction will open for bidding on Thursday 1 May at 6pm (tomorrow) and will close on Friday 30 May at 6pm. Visit the online aution site www.fendi.com/peekaboo-auction. The earnings will be donated to a charity Foundation for Children London and Bristol-based Kids Company.
…So, Ladies get your credit cards ready! All in the name of charity, of course
KATE ADIE: A revisited British army camouflage pattern is the theme of the reporter’s regular size Peekaboo in dusty pink leather.
I’m really enjoying the design and layout of your website: it’s very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to come here and visit more often.
