It seems that Italian luxury brands just can’t keep away from New York! In December, Valentino hosted a couture showing at the former Whitney Museum space uptown, and now Gucci has joined the roundelay, announcing plans to present its upcoming cruise collection in New York. (The last time that Gucci hosted a show in New York was back in June 2006).
Slated to take place June 4 this year (the venue is still TBA), the collection will mark Alessandro Michele‘s – who succeeded Frida Giannini as creative director in January – first interseasonal creations for the luxury Italian fashion house.
Finale from Gucci FW 2015-16 collection show in Milan
Taking pre-season collections to different and often exotic locations seems to be a popular choice among design houses this year: with Chanel showing on May 4 (which is the same day as the Met Gala) at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul, South Korea, and Dior heading to Los Angeles (following in Tom Ford’s footsteps) on May 9. Louis Vuitton is also hosting their collection in Seoul, although an exact location and date have yet to be disclosed, according to WWD.
So, while Fashion Month is basically fini with Paris Fashion Week, the focus has already switched to the resort collections. Keep your passport handy and up to date for this next set of shows 😉
