Karlie Kloss has partnered up with ultra-hip US brand Warby Parker to create a line of retro-looking sunglasses for the label. The model was drawn to the project, she said, because “it was an opportunity for me to get involved from the beginning of the process—thinking through every inch of the frames, the art direction, seeing how the team works and finally the campaign.”
It’s a partnership that has been in the works since a few years ago, when the 21-year-old model met Warby Parker founders Dave Gilboa and Neil Blumenthal at a charity basketball game. “I really admired how Warby Parker donates a pair of glasses for every pair they sell, the way my cookie company donates school lunches for every cookie we sell” Kloss said.
Her collaboration with the sunglasses company includes six limited-edition styles and the supermodel unveiled the three designs on her Facebook page and on Instagram with the caption: “SO excited to finally introduce you to the girls…Clara, Marple and Julia! Each pair is made from ultra-strong, lightweight Japanese titanium and costs $145 ($195 with prescription). Part of the proceeds of the Karlie x Warby sales go to Edible Schoolyard NYC, a non profit organization, which works with low-income schools in the city to build kitchens and gardens where they teach students to develop “lifelong healthy habits”.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Kloss has dipped a toe into the design pool. Last year, the Victoria’s Secret supermodel worked on a collaboration with Frame Denim to create a collection of long-legged jeans, but this marks her first approach to accessories… 😉
