Miu Miu just revealed “Subjective Reality“, its new campaign for the Autumn/Winter 15 season inspired by street style icons and photography.
Shot by Steven Meisel on the sidewalks of New York, the campaign stars four fast-rising actresses – Mia Goth, Maddison Brown, Hailey Gates and Stacy Martin.
Each image tells a story, a break from Miu Miu’s typical style of labeling, listing only the models’ names, date, location, and photographer: a passerby is captured mid gesture (fixing their glasses in place), a man is seen purchasing his breakfast and an office-worker is seen strolling to work. The subjects, dressed in Miu Miu AW15, are framed by car windows or caught waiting at a bus stop, or crossing the street.
The rebellious and improvisational spirit of the images, matches the attitude of the collection. Clashing colours, tonnes of texture and a mash-up of materials play out as a series of pinafore tops, glossy pinafores, cotton shirting, oversized outerwear and bold accessories – complete with a slick of rouge lipstick and a black eyeliner flick.
Miu Miu has previously explored the question of daily life in its campaigns. Earlier this year, the Prada-owned brand questioned the ordinary with a new installment of its commissioned Women’s Tales series.
It’s worth noting that Miu Miu isn’t the only major—or only Italian—house to take its campaign to the streets this season. Gucci also shot its ads on the boulevards of Los Angeles.
The marked difference, however, is that Miu Miu crafted staged scenes with full styling while Gucci left its magpies to mingle with the L.A. regulars.
