Fashion designer Miuccia Prada lensed by Mario Sorrenti
Only 12 years after the book first came out, and nine years after the film adaptation, Miuccia Prada has finally revealed what she thinks of The Devil Wears Prada.
Based on Lauren Weisberger‘s hit novel, the satirical film played off some of the worst stereotypes of the fashion industry. However, the fashion designer has kept silent about the movie until now.

She admits she was not a huge fan: “I was terrified: the book was awful,” Prada revealed to Italy’s daily Corriere della Sera online edition, joyfully adding: “The film, on the other hand, was fun.”
The Devil Wears Prada follows the story of Andy, a keen journalist who lands a job as the assistant of legendary editor Miranda Priestley, and is quickly thrown into a world where she works 24/7 and has a list of absurd tasks to complete for her ever-demanding boss.
Starring Emily Blunt, Oscar-winning actresses Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, with a cameo from Gisele Bündchen, the film proved a worldwide success, grossing over $326.5 million at the international box office.

While there are rumours of a followup to The Devil Wears Prada, they’ve so far been squashed despite interest from the cast. Emily Blunt, who stars as Anne Hathaway’s fellow employee, caused a stir amongst fans last year when she revealed that she would love to be in a sequel.
Lauren has already written a sequel, Revenge Wears Prada, however there has been no confirmation that a second film is in the works.
“Wouldn’t that be fun? I’d love to do that, but I don’t know if there is any plan for it,” said Anne Hathaway.
In an interview with The Graham Norton Show, Hathaway revealed that Streep, who played the notorious Miranda Priestly, was just as cold off-screen.
“When I met her she gave me a huge hug,” Hathaway explained, “and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, we are going to have the best time on this movie,’ and then she’s like, ‘Ah sweetie, that’s the last time I’m nice to you.’
“She then went into her trailer and came out the ice queen and that was really the last I saw of ‘Meryl’ for months, until we promoted the film,” Hathaway said.
Never fear though: Meryl Streep is a method actor and she’s actually “magical” in real life, as described by Hathaway. “She’s the most amazing, warm person,” said the actress.
The original novel written by Lauren sparked widespread speculation that her protagonists were based loosely on her own life and career as the assistant to iconic editor Anna Wintour. However, Anna herself showed off her sense of humour when she attended the premiere of the film, wearing an outfit from Prada…
