Carolina Herrera‘s Fall 2014 collection featured a bevy of cool, geometric shapes and fabulous, statement-making gowns. It was all about proportions, with emphasis on volume and soft construction. The designer paired her look with supersized fez hats and glamorous red chandelier earrings. Overall? Beautiful.
Brr! Time to bundle up. Tommy Hilfiger showed his latest collection on a snow-covered runway, setting the mood for his cozy knits and fabulous coats. Models looked snug as a bug from the waist up—but freezing and bare-legged from waist down!
Menswear-inspired pieces and boxy silhouettes ruled at 3.1 Phillip Lim, and yet the collection still felt feminine. Lilac-colored jackets and maxi skirts gave the edgy, fashion-forward show a soft and pretty vibe. “It was about amplifying the character of the woman,” Lim told in the backstage.
Karen Walker‘s latest collection, a tribute to the suffragettes of yore, was one of her best. What I love about Walker is how her designs are edgy and cool but still so simple and wearable. The designer did well with her blouses and full skirts, which hinted at Victoriana without driving the point home, or for that matter, feeling particularly “vintage” at all.
Zac Posen‘s ultra-voluminous gowns truly made a statement. The designer opted to showcase a more minimalist line with a limited color palate this time around. I’m going to have a hard time forgetting these dresses—and that’s always a good thing. Bravo, Zac, for creating something gorgeous and memorable. Pure romance.
Donna Karan celebrated her label’s 30th anniversary this season, and so it’s no surprise that she delivered some truly show-stopping pieces. A standout included a breezy black chiffon dress that shows a whole lotta leg.
