The life of the iconic, and amazingly talented designer Lee Alexander McQueen continues to permeate pop culture – with the opening of exhibitions, the debut of books, and now a new theatrical production in London.

Written by James Phillips of The Rubenstein Kiss and directed by Shakespeare veteran John Caird, with production design by David Farley and choreography by Christopher Marney, the play will focus over one night in London, when an imaginary girl breaks into the designer’s home, steals a dress, and is caught by the iconic fashion visionary.

Set to debut at the St James Theatre in London from May to June 2015, McQueen: The Story of a Fashion Visionary will be much more than one biography and will showcase “the visionary imagination and dark dream world” of McQueen.

UPDATE: March 21st, 2015

This weekend the impressive cast has been revealed. Glee star Dianna Agron will make her British stage debut playing a fictional character Dhalia, and the Laurence Olivier award-winning Stephen Wight will play the lead – Alexander Lee McQueen. British actress Tracy-Ann Oberman will also play Isabella Blow. Wight has starred in the BBC’s Sherlock TV series, and a plethora of stage productions including Michael Grandage’s Don Juan in Soho.

Inspired by McQueen’s iconic Autumn/Winter 08 show ‘The Girl who live in the Tree’, the story imagines a girl breaking into McQueen’s Mayfair apartment to steal a dress, but ends up “embarking on a journey through London [with him] and into his heart.”

A spokeswoman for Alexander McQueen the label said that it was not involved in the production, but that it had been written in co-operation with members of McQueen’s family.
