Working in a color palette of black and white with a touch of red, Victoria Beckham‘s Fall 2014 collection was utterly refined and effortless. And while there were menswear-inspired elements (i.e. topcoats and trousers), the overall vibe of her collection was soft and feminine with also something that remind me of Céline in the tailored coats.
Derek Lam‘s fresh collection was filled with modern silhouettes that celebrated the fashion-forward, working woman. A fabulous coat, gratifyingly well-cut pants, an out-of-the-ordinary boot. And between my favorite pieces was the patchwork leather skirt. Rich, but clean…Gorgeous.
Forget fall! Thakoon‘s latest collection had us thinking of all things springtime. The show was basically an ode to florals, and one of our favorite looks was a flouncy, pepto pink skirt paired with an oversized stone gray sweater. So simple and fresh and so much colors: fuchsia, cobalt, and aviator orange mingled with camel, navy, and black.
The first thing you noticed about DKNY‘s Fall show was its eclectic cast. Nearly half of the 55 total looks were modeled by real New Yorkers (!) and the show proved that dressing for fall should never be boring. Even the clothes felt like elevated versions of those real New Yorkers are already wearing. Varsity jackets with pailette-embellished sleeves, lace-finished dresses and faux fur coats in black, white and gray will surely be worn as armor for the concrete jungle come fall.
Even the runway was patterned at the DVF show! The collection was an explosion of playful prints and colors (royal blue, magenta and tomato—just to name a few), but my favorite thing about Diane von Furstenberg‘s show was that the models actually smiled! A rarity during Fashion Week.
Edun
Aesthetically, Edun has honed its look. This time around, Sherman incorporated graphic elements through texture blocking and weaving. Other fabric manipulations produced hair-like and Astroturf textures, and she used faux fur. “We really are playing with materials to build that youthful playfulness,” she said. “There’s a kind of art student feeling to it.” Part of that playfulness came in a woven herringbone in patent leather on a chunky-heeled boot, the result of a collaboration with Manolo Blahnik.
